May I suggest one character per series? I'm not saying split hairs by having Mega Man AND Zero, I'm saying that that'd all be one series. Example: Mario Link Sonic NiGHTS Ryu Mega Man Kazuya Pac-man
Just as examples (I added the main characters from the most popular franchises of 4 major companies).

If we end up going with Nightmare Genesis, it is going to use original characters so we can hopefully make an indie game out of it. Until then, that roster is fine.
